The subprogram Roof Community was the origin of our organization. Since its very beginnings, FUPROVI has tried to provide underprivileged families access to dignified and quality housing.
The following phrase summarizes our feelings at FUPROVI regarding the Roof Community subprogramme:
"Our duty is… to go beyond four walls and a roof, towards a dignified home in a dignified community, that respects the environment and that welcomes people that responsibly comply with their civil responsibilities.”
Our experiences throughout the years have been many and gratifying ones; since 1989, we have supported more than 20.000 families, which means approximately 110.000 underprivileged people, who have been supported in the construction of their houses, with their own efforts through the Social Production of Habitat methodology.

Social Production of Habitat goes hand in hand with self-help management; people involved in our Roof Community projects do not only offer their work in the construction process, which gives them a greater sense of ownership and pride for their achievements, but they are also trained to get resources for their project, such as materials, manpower, borrowing materials form the local municipality, and financial resources, among others.
Roof Community offers 3 elements:
- Financial: it can offer short-term credit to develop the project and help getting institutional housing support.
- Training: it offers consulting and training in legal, organizational, administrative and building matters needed to carry out the project.
- Technical: it offers technical consulting to participants so they can quickly and safely build their houses.
